Jibreel (AS) Leading the Prophet (ﷺ) in Prayer
Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) narrated that Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Jibreel led me in prayer at the House. He prayed Dhuhr when the sun had just passed its zenith, Asr when the shadow of an object was equal to its length, Maghrib when one who fasts breaks their fast, Isha after twilight disappeared, and Fajr when food and drink become forbidden for fasting.”
The following day, Jibreel (AS) returned to establish the exact prayer timings by demonstrating the duration of each Salah. This guidance came after the Isra and Miraj, ensuring that the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions performed the prayers correctly.
Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) also narrated:
“The next day, Jibreel (AS) led Dhuhr when his shadow equaled his height, Asr when his shadow was twice his height, Maghrib at the same time as before, Isha when a third of the night had passed, and Fajr when the light had spread. Then he said: ‘Muhammad, this is the time observed by the prophets before you, and the time is anywhere between these two periods.’”
