“Quba Walk: In the Prophet’s ﷺ Steps”

Masjid Quba: The First Mosque in Islam

Masjid Quba is the first mosque in Islamic history, built in 622 CE shortly after the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated to Madinah. It stands as a powerful symbol of faith, unity, and devotion. The Prophet ﷺ personally laid its foundation, highlighting the importance of establishing a place for worship and connection with Allah.

A Place of Great Spiritual Rewards

Visiting Masjid Quba is a highly rewarding act of worship. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever purifies himself at home and then goes to Masjid Quba and prays two rak‘ahs therein, he will have a reward equal to that of Umrah.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Allah ﷻ also praises Masjid Quba in the Qur’an:

﴿ لَمَسْجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى التَّقْوَى مِنْ أَوَّلِ يَوْمٍ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَقُومَ فِيهِ ۚ فِيهِ رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ ﴾
(Surah At-Tawbah 9:108)

“There is a mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety; it is more worthy for you to stand in. In it are men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves.”

Each year, thousands of pilgrims visit this blessed mosque, seeking its immense rewards and following in the footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ.

The Quba Walk: A Journey in the Footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ

The Quba Walk is a historic 4.4-kilometer route connecting Masjid an-Nabawi to Masjid Quba. This was a path regularly walked by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, reflecting his humility, devotion, and commitment to visiting Masjid Quba. The journey takes approximately 45-55 minutes on foot or 11 minutes by car.

More Than a Walk: A Spiritual Reflection

This walk is not just a physical journey but an opportunity for deep reflection. As you pass through the Al Jummah Neighbourhood Gateway, you are reminded of the Prophet’s ﷺ migration to Madinah and the sacrifices made to establish Islam.

The Prophet ﷺ was known for his simple and humble lifestyle. Despite his status as the Messenger of Allah, he chose to walk this route rather than take a mount, showing his closeness to the people. His companion Abdullah ibn Umar رضي الله عنه reported:

“The Prophet ﷺ used to go to Masjid Quba every Saturday, either walking or riding.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, 1191)

Following this path today is a way to connect with his legacy, reflect on your own spiritual journey, and experience a glimpse of the devotion and simplicity that defined his life.
