Saudi Arabia Lifts Umrah Age Limit

Saudi Arabia Lifts Age Restrictions for Foreign Umrah Pilgrims

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced the removal of age restrictions on Umrah pilgrims that were previously in place. The maximum age limit of 50 years for international pilgrims has now been lifted, allowing more Muslims to embark on their spiritual journey.

Previously, only Muslims aged 18 to 50 were permitted to perform Umrah, visit the Grand Mosque, pray at       Al-Rawdah Sharif in the Prophet’s Mosque, and visit the Prophet’s tomb under the earlier regulations.

With the latest update, elderly foreign pilgrims can now perform Umrah under the revised guidelines. Flexible Umrah Packages 2025 are available to accommodate the schedules and budgets of all pilgrims

Ban on Umrah for Overseas Pilgrims Under 18 Continues

Overseas pilgrims under the age of 18 remain ineligible to perform Umrah, while domestic pilgrims aged 12 and above are permitted to perform Umrah and worship at the Two Holy Mosques. Although social distancing is no longer mandated, wearing masks remains a required precaution. Entry to the holy sites is strictly regulated, with access granted only after verification through official systems.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has resumed issuing permits for Umrah and access to the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah for international pilgrims through the Eatmarna and Tawakkalna apps. Previously, international pilgrims were required to obtain permits through Saudi Umrah agencies, but now they can acquire them directly without intermediaries. Pilgrims who have already downloaded the apps must update them to access the latest services. Additionally, registration on the Khudum portal is mandatory, as only those who complete this process are eligible to receive permits.

Following nearly two years of restrictions, King Salman’s directive to restore the full capacity of the Two Holy Mosques and the recent lifting of travel bans are expected to significantly boost the number of international Umrah pilgrims in the upcoming season.

Planning to Perform Umrah in December?

December is an ideal time to perform Umrah, as it offers a more comfortable climate compared to the scorching summer months. While Makkah enjoys pleasant weather, Madinah remains mild, making the journey easier, especially for those who struggle with extreme heat.

For Muslims in the United Kingdom, December also coincides with the holiday season, providing an excellent opportunity to embark on this spiritual journey without work or academic commitments. Many Muslims prefer to utilize this time to visit the House of Allah and fulfill their religious aspirations.
