The Quran’s Revelation Night

he Night That Changed the World – ليلة القدر

Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Qadr:

Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, marks the beginning of the Quran’s revelation — a night better than a thousand months. سبحان الله, one night greater in reward than an entire lifetime.

How Revelation Began –

Before receiving revelation, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would retreat to the Cave of Hira, seeking solitude from the corruption of his society. He began seeing truthful dreams, which came true exactly as he had seen them.

Then came a moment that changed everything.

The First Revelation –

Narrated by Aisha (RA), the Prophet ﷺ said:

“An angel came to me and said, ‘Read!’ I said, ‘I do not know how to read.’ He embraced me tightly and repeated, ‘Read!’ This happened three times until he said:

These were the first verses of the Quran revealed to our beloved Prophet ﷺ.

The Prophet’s Reaction –

Overwhelmed and trembling, the Prophet ﷺ rushed home to Khadijah (RA) and said:

“Cover me! Cover me!”

He recounted the event, and Khadijah (RA) reassured him, saying:

“By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You uphold ties of kinship, speak the truth, help the poor, honour your guests, and assist those in need.”

This was not just the start of revelation — it was the beginning of the message of Islam.

The First Believer –

Khadijah (RA) was the first to believe in the message. Her immediate faith and unwavering support highlight the power of conviction, love, and partnership in the path of truth.

A Universal Message –

The Quran was revealed gradually over 23 years, responding to real-life events, shaping society, and guiding hearts. Today, it remains preserved and unchanged, memorised by millions around the world.
